The New Hampshire Insurance Department (NHID) promoted Keith Nyhan to the deputy commissioner of the department. Nyhan has served as director of the consumer services unit since 2007.
“Keith has an impressive history of distinguished service to the state and his community,” New Hampshire Insurance Commissioner DJ Bettencourt said. “He is well respected not only for the skills that he brings to his job, but also for the commitment and integrity demonstrated throughout his distinguished career. He has been a tremendous asset to many of us, and the department has benefitted greatly from his insight and experience since his arrival at NHID.”
Nyhan brings over 28 years of expertise in the financial services and insurance sectors to his new role. Beginning his tenure at the NHID as the examiner in charge of the life and health market conduct unit, he has consistently demonstrated expertise in compliance management, consumer advocacy, and regulatory oversight. In his role as director of the consumer services unit, Keith was responsible for safeguarding the interests of Granite Staters and has overseen the recovery of $33 million for New Hampshire residents since October 2011.
“I am deeply honored by the trust of my colleagues,” Nyhan said. “Embracing this role as deputy commissioner, I am excited about the challenges and the opportunity to lead the oversight of the products and licensees we regulate. I am fully prepared for this role and motivated to address any forthcoming challenges.
“I also wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all those I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with over the past 16 years,” continued Nyhan. “Our collective journey has been marked by shared learning and unwavering mutual respect, and I am confident that this spirit will continue to guide our path forward.”
Holding a bachelor of arts in Russian from the College of the Holy Cross and an associate of arts in accounting from McIntosh College, Nyhan’s career began in the United States Army, where he reached the rank of sergeant, serving as an electronic warfare voice intercept specialist and earning a certification as an Arabic linguist from the Defense Language Institute.
Nyhan then joined John Hancock Financial Services in 1997, where he held positions ranging from customer service representative to compliance director, with responsibilities spanning risk management, administrative operations, and project management.
