The New York legislature passed legislation to reform the state’s civil laws to provide more tools to prevent deed theft. The bill, drafted jointly with Attorney General Letitia James, is part of ongoing efforts to combat deed theft and keep New Yorkers in their homes.
The bill, introduced in the state Senate as SB 6577 and in the state Assembly as AB 6656, was introduced by Sen. Brian Kavanagh and Assembly member Helene Weinstein and awaits the governor’s signature.
The bill provides certain protections for victims of real property theft.
