The Nevada Division of Insurance has been made aware of an email phishing scam targeting licensed insurance producers and agents in Nevada. The division has received several phone calls from licensed individuals reporting they have received a fraudulent email claiming their license may be revoked if they do not pay an amendment fee via a payment link embedded in the email.
The email is being sent from INSURANCE LICENSING <[email protected]> with the subject line: Nevada Division of Insurance AMENDMENT FEE.
That email is not from the Nevada Division of Insurance. All official Division of Insurance Licensing emails are sent from [email protected] or [email protected]. Emails received from any other addresses claiming to be the Division of Insurance should be considered fraudulent, and recipients should not click on any links and delete the email immediately..
The phishing email states, “Your Nevada license may be suspended if you do not pay the amendment fee. This courtesy notification replaces the paper notification you may have received in previous years. If you have not already done so please make sure to pay the amendment fee to avoid penalty fees and/or the cancellation of your license. Please remember to update your address and email contact information if needed.” It provided a link it claimed provided specific requirements and renewal instructions.
The release tells licensees that if they have received that email and have further questions or concerns, they should contact the Licensing Section directly at (775) 687-0700 and press option 2 or email [email protected].
