The rulemaking proposal concerns updates to regulations related to cybersecurity audits, risk assessments, insurance companies, and automated decision-making technology (ADMT).
The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), enacted in 2018 and effective in 2020, granted consumers new privacy rights and imposed obligations on businesses that collect personal information about consumers. In 2020, the Consumer Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) amended the CCPA, creating the CPPA and granting consumers additional rights. In addition, the CPRA created requirements for businesses relating to the processing of consumers’ personal information, disclosures to consumers, and methods for submitting CCPA requests.
The rulemaking proposal would update existing regulations and institute new ones, impacting areas such as the regulation of insurance companies, the handling of cybersecurity audits, the requirements for risk assessments and the use of ADMT, among others.
Oral or written statements or arguments relevant to the proposed rulemaking action can be made during the hearings. The CPPA requests, but does not require, that persons who make oral comments at the hearing also submit a written copy of their testimony at, or immediately following, the hearing via email to [email protected].
Written comments relevant to the proposed regulatory action can also be submitted prior to the closing of the public comment period on Feb. 19 at 6p.m. Pacific Time by emailing [email protected]. Only written comments received by that time will be considered.
