The Alabama Department of Insurance recovered $8.4 million for consumers via complaint resolutions in 2024, according to a press release.
The department’s consumer services division is responsible for resolving policyholder complaints that can’t be easily addressed by insurance carriers themselves, according to Alabama Insurance Commissioner Mark Fowler.
“Protecting insurance consumers is the first job of the Alabama Department of Insurance. Everything we do is looked at through that lens,” Fowler said in a release. “We want to make sure policyholders receive money that they are entitled to when they have an insurance claim. Alabamians can be confident that department staff will work to resolve disputes between carriers and consumers in a timely and fair manner.”
The $8.4 million consumer recovery announced by the department is based on formal complaints filed by Alabama insurance policyholders.
