The Maryland Insurance Administration issued Bulletin 24-19 to inform interested parties of the passage of HB 265/SB 336, which repeals the education and experience requirements for insurance producers that are required to pass an examination as a qualification for a producer license.
It states, “Effective Oct. 1, 2024, applicants who are required to pass an examination as a qualification for a producer license will no longer be required to complete a program of study that has been established or approved by the commissioner, nor meet minimum experience requirements prior to taking the examination.”
The bulletin noted that Prometric, its pre-licensing and examination service vendor, stopped accepting new pre-licensing course provider applications as of Aug. 1. Additionally, the roster of all active pre-licensing providers and pre-licensing courses will become inactive on Sept. 30. Applicants will not be able to schedule examinations from Sept. 27 through Sept. 30 while the systems are being updated.
“Once the law becomes effective, the administration and Prometric will no longer provide a list of pre-licensing education courses or providers,” the bulletin stated. “Candidates may find their own insurance exam preparation courses or they may order their own study materials.
“Insurance producer licensing candidates required to pass an exam may visit Prometric’s website to review the exam content outlines to assist in preparing for the subject areas included in the exam,” the bulletin continued. “Any questions about this bulletin may be directed to Shelley Taylor-Barnes, director of producer licensing, at [email protected].”
