The Arkansas State Legislature introduced legislation that would allow title insurance agents, title insurers and title companies to pay real property taxes in conjunction with the issuance of a title insurance policy.
The bill, HB 1836, was introduced by Rep. Les Warren, R-Hot Springs.
The bill would amend Arkansas Code Section 26-35-601(c)(2), concerning the requirement that personal property taxes be collected with real estate taxes. Currently it states, “the provisions of this section shall not prevent a person, firm, partnership, or corporation from paying general real estate taxes on property securing the payment of indebtedness due the person, firm, partnership, or corporation seeking to pay the taxes.”
The bill would state the provisions of the section would not prevent “a title insurance agency, title insurer, or title company from paying general real estate taxes on property in conjunction with the issuance of a title insurance policy.”
