The sessions Oct. 9 kicked off with a discussion on Uniform Closing Instructions, an effort created by MISMO, the Mortgage Industry Maintenance Standards Organization, to create common templates for closing instructions. James Lamphere, vice president of title and escrow services at Home Services of America, and Kate Steinman, vice president, business liason manager within the Strategic Engagement Management team at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, shared the progress the group has made, as well as provided a sneak peek at what the templates could look like, before the grand opening ceremony officially started the event.
After a session entitled “Do you have what it takes to defy convention?” kicked off Wednesday, Oct. 10, The Legal Description attended several sessions, including one on NextGen closings, where Michael Chodos, senior vice president and general counsel of Notarize; Alan Fields, senior vice president and director of underwriting services for WFG National Title Insurance; Brian Hughes, president of Amrock; and Nancy Pratt, vice president of partner relations and government affairs for Pavaso, discussed the latest hurdles and benefits of remote online notarization and the digital closing process.
Phil Schulman, partner, Mayer Brown LLP and John Lartz, deputy director, Illinois Division of Financial Institutions, helped attendees figure out how to navigate the changing landscape surrounding the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and discussed why, Yes, There’s still RESPA enforcement.
Matt McBride, co-owner of Continental Title Title Co. and Continental Real Estate Services, and Genady Vishnevetsky, chief information security officer, Stewart Information Services Corp., teamed up to discuss what attendees need to consider when making a rapid response plan to combat wire transfer fraud.
