The Alabama Department of Insurance (ALDOI) announced the appointment of Jimmy Gunn as deputy insurance commissioner. He will lead the department’s Producer Licensing, Consumer Services and Rates and Forms Divisions.
“I am delighted to make this appointment today,” Insurance Commissioner Jim Ridling said. “Jimmy is greatly respected by the insurance industry as well as his insurance regulatory colleagues around the nation. I know he will do an outstanding job representing and serving the people of Alabama in this new position.”
The appointment became effective on Oct. 16, 2020.
Gunn is an insurance regulatory professional who has worked with the ALDOI for more than 31 years, including 11 years as a rate analyst and the last 20 years as the manager of the Producer Licensing Division. He worked previously with Southern Guaranty Insurance Corp. (1970-1977) and Safeco Insurance Co. (1977-1979).
Gunn’s professional designations include APIR-Associate Professional Insurance Regulation, CPM-Certified Public Manager and SILA-F-Security Insurance Licensing Administrator-Fellow. Gunn also served 23 years in the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring in 1995 as a Sergeant First Class (E-7).
