Stewart Title Louisiana State Counsel Malcolm Meyer is the 2021 recipient of the Louisiana Land Title Association’s (LLTA) Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award in December at the association’s annual convention in recognition of his many contributions to the association, his community and profession.
“Our congratulations to Malcolm for this singular achievement,” Stewart Chief Legal Officer John Killea said in a release. “We are incredibly proud that Malcolm has been recognized by his peers for this outstanding lifetime award.”
Meyer said he is humbled to receive the prestigious award and that he’ll continue giving back to the profession for as long as he can by training the next generation to take over.
“What we do in title underwriting is very honorable and noble work, and that’s something I’d like to see continue beyond my own time in the field,” he said. “The best way I know how is by passing down my years of knowledge and wisdom to young underwriters so they can keep this system going.”
Meyer joined Stewart in 2014 as an underwriter after advising the company for many years. His career began 1968 with title abstract work. Today, he spends his time teaching and mentoring, working as an adjunct professor at Tulane Law School for 16 years and lecturing at the LLTA Annual Convention for the past 15 years. He also serves as a mentor in Stewart’s Underwriter Mentorship Program.
Meyer holds a juris doctor degree from Tulane Law School. He was the recipient of President Bush’s Daily Point of Light Award for his pro bono work in helping clear titles after Hurricane Katrina. He is also an author of the book, “Meyer’s Manual on Louisiana Real Estate,” published by Claitor's of Baton Rouge.
