On Jan. 5, Bernalillo County, N.M., was hit with a ransomware attack. It took the affected systems offline and severed network connections. The county noted the disruption likely occurred between midnight and 5:30 am on Jan. 5.
Venders for county systems were notified and are working to solve the issue and restore the system functions.
Over the weekend, the county informed residents it is continuing to assess and recover from the ransomware attack. The county’s headquarters at Alvarado Square reopened, to limited access, on Monday, Jan. 10. It stated that anyone needing assistance from a county department is encouraged to contact the office before traveling to Alvarado Square or any other county facility. County customer service can be contacted at 505-468-7777.
Among other things, the county noted that the clerk’s office has no access to systems and no legal filings are possible, including real estate transactions.
