The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau launched a web form to replace the email address that industry members used to submit questions regarding the bureau’s regulations. Questions should now be submitted using the form located at https://reginquiries.consumerfinance.gov.
The landing page states: “The bureau’s Office of Regulations offers financial institutions, service providers, and others informal staff guidance on specific questions about the bureau’s regulations. The bureau also makes available on its website extensive written implementation and guidance materials, which answer most common questions. Please consult those materials before submitting a question using this form.”
It tells regulated entities that they can expect to hear back from the bureau in 10-15 days, and that response times and formats may vary “depending on the current volume of questions, the amount of time needed to research your question, and staff availability.”
“Please understand that the responses we provide are not official interpretations of the bureau and are not a substitute for formal legal counsel or other compliance advice. For example, we cannot moderate disputes between parties, provide guidance on matters that are under examination or investigation by the bureau or another state or federal agency, or answer questions about specific business plans. We also cannot provide guidance on state law or federal law that is not under the bureau’s authority. Comments on pending rulemakings should be submitted to the public docket. Information on upcoming rulemakings is available in the unified agenda.”
